ANISHINABEK EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE LAUNCHES FIRST NATION CHILD WELFARE ADVOCATE (FNCWA) PROGRAM IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CANADORE COLLEGE

This program is intended for First Nation Child Welfare Advocates (FNCWA) across Ontario who are seeking a consistent model of education and training as professionals and colleagues within the First Nation Child Welfare System.  The program is relevant for First Nations Child Welfare Advocates as well as any other front line worker in the field of Child and Family Welfare.
At present, First Nation Child Welfare Advocates (FNCWAs) are trained in a variety of different post-secondary fields and have access to only two days of job-specific training.  The program would provide an opportunity for professionals in the field to gain recognition and validation within their profession. It would also aid in the establishment of a professional network supporting best practices and consistent standards and guidelines to benefit First Nation children and families. It is a goal of the First Nations Child Welfare Advocate Program Advisory Committee to introduce a program that would increase their professional ability to serve communities in a consistent, fair and timely manner.
