Nipissing Site

Karen Commandant

Karen is from Wahta Mohawk Territory where she worked as the Administrator for several years. Karen has recent teaching experience at the College level as well as substantial training and facilitation experience working with several First Nation communities in Southern Ontario. Her educational background includes a Public Administration and Governance Degree program. Karen is a big fan of the AEI programs and its unique delivery method. Karen believes, “It is such a gift for students to be able to pursue their personal educational goals while continuing employment and, in so doing, contributing to their workplace, community and family”.  

Debra Tate

Debra taught in the Native Community Care Worker Program in 2009- 2010. Courses she delivered include English/Communications (Business), Interpersonal Relationships, Oral Communications and Native Identity. Debra is a graduate of the Native Community Care and Counselling Development Program. She also has a diploma in English and Psychology as a minor.


Helen Debassige

Helen has been an instructor with AEI since 1996 and she has taught various courses in the Native Community Care: Counselling and Development Program. Courses taught include Behavioural Science I & II, Case Management, Community & Environment, Counselling Techniques I & II, Family & Family Violence, Introduction to Substance Abuse, Native Mental Health I & II, Social Competence & Deviant Behaviour and Sociology of Community. Her educational background is comprised of a Certificate in Family Life Studies & Human Sexuality, Bachelor of Social Work (BSW, Honours), and a Masters of Social Work (MSW). Helen is a Registered Social Worker.

Loretta Plume-Assinewai

Loretta has previous experience in academic counselling as well as aboriginal student counselling. Her extensive educational background includes an Aboriginal Teacher’s Education Program – Diploma in Education, a B.A Honours in Professional Humans Services, a Bachelor of Education , a Master’s Degree in Education as well as a Native language Instructor’s Certificate.
 
 
Rev. Dale Broadworth
 
Rev. Dale is currently working as a Minister and District Director for Non Profit in Northern Ontario. His educational background includes a Theology Diploma, Bachelors Degree of Economics as well as a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Dale will be instructing Applied Accounting I and Business Mathematics for the Business program.
 
 
Ms. Holly Hoy
 
Ms. Hoy is a mother of two boys and from Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve. Educational successes for her include a Bachelor of Education Degree, with Special Education qualifications from Nipissing University.  Ms. Hoy also has her Honors Bachelor of Social Work Degree and Bachelor of Arts Degree in Native Studies from Laurentian University. Included in her educational background, Holly has also received her Native Classroom Assistant Program Certificate, and an Early Childhood Education Diploma. Ms. Hoy has 8 years of experience as an Educational Assistant and looks forward to opportunities where she can teach in the education field. She will be instructing courses in the ECE Resource Teacher Program with the Anishinabek Educational Institute. 
 
 
Donna McLeod
 
Donna is a member of Nipissing First Nations and she has been working in the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services for 10 years. Her educational background includes a Developmental Service Worker Diploma, a Police Foundations Program Diploma, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice and she is currently working towards a Masters Degree in Integrated Studies. Donna will be instructing Introduction to Canadian Law for the Business Program.
